Hi! As a rule of thumb that isn't always correct but is mostly correct: public hops are less expensive than private hops. Lots of qualifiers I could add but I think that's a good starting point.
The price of hops is really complex and there are a lot of market forces that get in the way of a super clean demand & supply = price relationship.
Yes the market is in excess. Especially for certain varieties. But the ownership models, demand for the variety, contract v spot position, how many acres are being grown, direction of the demand for, future expectations....so many things feed into price.
Maybe this is all too long of an answer to say that I think prices have been falling but maybe not to the point that everyone is noticing, not yet at least.
